Candy Samples

Candy Samples was one of the true larger than life figures that lit up the early adult industry.

Whether is it was in black and white cheesecake photo sets from the late 1960s, thousands of magazine appearances, and scores of films – from softcore to hardcore, from loops to catfight wrestling shorts.

She had a mischievous, friendly look that stood out from all the other models. She often played the roles of older women that somehow looked like your mother’s naughty friend, exuding a mysterious sex appeal.

And then there were her breasts. With her formidable physique, she looked like an Amazonian queen; fit, tanned and physically invincible. No wonder she was cast as Chief Nellie in the 1974 science fiction spoof Flesh Gordon, or in the 1979 Russ Meyer film Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens.

Her staggering physique made her an instant favorite, and for many years she toured as an exotic dancer. Somehow she just seemed to get better with age. She developed a huge following that endured right through to her retirement in the late 1980s – and continues today.

After she retired, she remained active – writing columns in the 1990s for magazines like Juggs. And she had an online fan club where she would have chat sessions with fans.

About ten years ago she disappeared from public view just as we were getting curious to learn more about her life. What was it like being one of the people who was there at the birth of the adult industry? And how difficult had been to stay there for so long?

The Rialto Report figured that as she’d been active in the industry for almost 40 years it wouldn’t be difficult to find her. We figured wrong.

We looked for the legendary star and made some surprising discoveries.

I've seen some or all of about half of Candy's films. I was also a Juggs subscriber for a while and always turned to her column first. A buddy of mine worked at an actual adult theater and allowed me to sneak in and watch. Seen Behind the Green Door, Deep Throat and Debbie Does Dallas and scores of others all prior to the videotape boom.

I met Candy a few times my self. First time i was dancing at a club just south of Boston and she vame in as a headliner for the weekend . She was kinda put offish at first, but warmed up after her first set. She never drank before or during her shows, but would have a cocktail or two with us regulars after her last set of the nite, and then would pose for some autographed pics with the crowd 5-10$ if it was solo or with the guy/ couple us girls could get pics in the dressing room autograghed for free, but she would not allow naked or topless pics. As a matter of fact she was never undressed at all even when just relaxing with us gals. It was many years later when i met her again when she was headlining a club in Jamestown NY., i went there specifically to see her perform. I had also brought one of the pics of us together from Boston in hopes of getting her to autograph it. When i showed her the pic i was invited to the show on the following sinday afternoon. When i went my hubby and i were seated at a special table where we watched Candy's ladt set and then visited with her for half an hour or so talking about the "old days" after wich she gave me a hug and a kiss an autographed glamour shot from the old days and asked me for the old polarood of us , wich i gave her. We then got a pic of the 3 of us together, one for her, and one for us, and this one she signed.. its only a Polaroid but it sits on a shelf in a frame above my dresser . She was a tough lady, but also a friendl sweetheart when she wanted to be.

I met Candy Samples twice, in Breslau before her show, and Toronto during her show. I was surprised how small she was, which made her Tits look huge, but I'm sure she could have been a 32 D.
