COVID-19 and John Wayne

In American myth we all imagine ourselves as the one who against the odds stands alone and triumphs. Just like John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn, who takes the horse’s rains into his mouth, with Winchester in each hand, charges the outlaws and guns blazing kills the Parmalee brothers.

In Real Life, Rooster Cogburn would have had four bullet holes in his chest before he could have said “Giddy-up Horsey”.

Same is true with our response to the COVID-19 epidemic. The self-styled conservatives see themselves as the John Wayne type heroes who can ‘ride-out’ any tribulations and single handily stand victorious on the other side of the calamity. Unfortunately that mentality, so far, caused 254,000 fatalities in US and 1,340,000 Worldwide. The virus does not care if you’re John Wayne or John Nobody. It’ll kill you just the same.

Think about this, when you’re dead, you’re no good to anyone. Therefore, take off your cowboy hat, get off your horse and practice the rules which will keep you alive. You’re worth more alive than dead and your family will love you.
