    Good question. I do not have a cane at the moment. I like taking my belt off.. and that is a versatile instrument.

    So thick leather belt or a straight handled whippy cane.

    It has to be the cane. The swish sound before it lands prepares me for the white hot pain that follows. The welt lasts for several days as a reminder.

    The plimsoll, gives a nice satisfying splat noise when properly applied, creates impressive tread marks, and doesn't leave revealing stripes for days afterwards.
