PROSTITUTION IN JAPAN

There are 300,000 prostitutes in Japan at any one time. One in 20 Japanese women has worked as a prostitute at some time in their lives.
Females from college age students to 50 year old mothers have worked as prostitutes.
The reason they work as prostitutes range from high school students who want more money to buy branded hand-bags, clothing, etc., college students who need money to pay college fees, women who have debts or who need capital to open a shop or small business.
The reasons girls and women work as prostitutes is because it is very lucrative. They can earn US$300 per hour compared with convenience store clerks who earn US$10 per hour. And for a prostitute, only about half an hour is spent having sex, the rest on chatting, etc.
Most of the women who had worked a prostitutes do not tell their future boyfriends or husbands. They consider that part of their life as episode to be forgotten.
Why do Japanese men go to brothels ? Some do so because of sexless marriages, eg. their wives are not keen on having sex or don't want it so often. Others go because the brothels offer younger and prettier girls. Also, many brothels offer to satisfy their fantasies. For example they provide make belief train coaches with prostitutes dressed like office girls and allow them to fondle their breasts and touch their private parts. This eventually lead to having sex on the make believe train coaches. They also provide young looking prostitutes dressed as school girls and even women who are obviously pregnant.
Young Japanese men go to brothels because they find having a regular girl friend time consuming. Some cheaper brothels offer sex for just US100 for a short time.
Most Japanese women do not mind if they find out that their husbands or boyfriends have visited brothels.

Japanese culture has in the past expected women to be subservient to men. The men are solely responsible for providing money for the family. The women stays at home doing domestic chores which they accept as their role in society. But things are gradually changing. More and more young women go to schools and colleges and earn their own money so that they can be financially independent. While Japanese used to accept and put up with sexual harrassment at work places and in public, things are changing in modern times. It would be interesting to find out how Japanese men felt about the fact that their wives or girl friends had once been a prostitute? Or Japanese men knew it but chose to ignore it since they themselves go to brothels? Perhaps this infidelity of Japanese men and women has caused many unwanted issues in the present Japanese society? Yet my impression of the Japanese men and women worked very hard till they drop dead sometimes; or extremely tired day in and day out, making the Japanese society well ordered, organized, and precised to the Nth degree. It is a wonder and interesting.

The sexual attitude of Japanese society were heavily influenced by Confucian ideals widespread in China and Japan in the past. Men were heads of households and women's role was to produce heirs and take care of the children and home. In Japan in particular, women were expected to be submissive to men and this is reflected in Japanese porn. Even in public this thinking pervaded. Women in crowded trains put up with being touched on their breasts, buttocks and pubic areas. But from the 1990s onwards more women reported these men for molesting and such offensese are rare now. Valerie's comments about Viet War era Americans going on R&R as sex tourists are fair. In some places the ladies lined up just outside the US airbase when the silver birds came in from Vietnam.
