Porn Parodies: Everything Old is New Again!
The Adult Film Industry has always made parodies. It can be said that they have been a staple of the industry almost from the very beginning. In the 1970's, they parodied their sitcoms, there were Three's Company, Charlie's Angels, and M.A.S.H parodies. Along with all the 80's excess came 80's parodies, like Miami Vice, Rocky, and even E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. The 1990's brought along parodies of Star Trek, Baywatch, and Married With c***dren. Porn became a billion dollar a year business, but at the same time, a new, dynamic media was emerging, the thing we know today as the Internet.
The Internet totally changed the game. Anyone could become a pornstar. Almost overnight porn websites popped up out of nowhere all across the globe, stocked with Amature porn. Now, I know there are some amature porn parodies, I saw my fair share in the 2000's, but they mostly sucked. The official adult industry all but gave up on parodies in the early to mid 2000's, focusing more on features and trying to distinguish itself from the poorer quality internet product. It was about this time though that porn got a little smart, studios started to realize that they should start dumping their million dollar profits into the films themselves. Digital Playground's watershed Pirates films were the first to really give porn films a big budget, and it showed in look, feel, story, and the acting. Pirates and Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge were also re-edited as softcore films and sent to video stores everywhere. Still the Internet reared its ugly head and by 2008 porn DVD sales had dropped dramatically. As well, the adult industry backed HD DVD's had lost in the format wars to Blu-ray. The porn industry needed something to get back on track.
Enter new porn parodies. It started relatively light, with porn films that parodied popular sitcoms, like Seinfeld, Friends, and 30 Rock. But these parodies, unlike the ones that had come before had big budgets, big stars, and they were really faithful to the source material in both set design, quality, tone, and story. Almost overnight, these parodies became successes both financially and in terms of popularity. Those results gave confidence to a bunch of different studios and suddenly the race was on, nothing was off-limits, nothing was out-of-bounds, and within a month parodies were popping up all over the place. Then last year, Vivid Entertainment, arguably the most well-known porn studio in the world, took the porn parody to the next level, when they released Batman: The XXX Parody. What could pass as an actual hollywood film, Batman XXX looked just like the old TV series, and was just fantastic. From the success of Batman, Vivid launched an entire line of superhero parodies, including maybe the best parody I've ever seen: Superman XXX, and more are on the way including: Star Wars XXX, Green Lantern, Grease, Clockwork Orange, and The Godfather
Porn Parodies have also turned to parodying people, with films on Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, and Elvis. These parodies have made stars out of Axel Braun, Roy Lee Meyers, and Will Ryder, all whom seem to be the premier directors of porn parodies, even Ashlynn Brooke has lent her directing hand to Wonder Woman XXX and Little Red Ridding Hood XXX. All these films have worked to solidify Lexi Belle and Tori Black as top pornstars, as they have the beauty, and talent to act in these things, and have appeared in a ton of them.
