More masturbation in the News

I enjoy culling for articles and research after each year on sex porn use and masturbation to see how things have change. The last several years each saw dramatic rises in porn use and masturbation and I recall an article that believed it was saturated and expected it to level off. That actually impacted stock futures in porn, however, recent stats proved that to be a huge underestimate. We are masturbating beyond all expectations!  LOL

Pornhub released its 2017 Year In Review and noted that mobile devices became preferred platform. The number of viewers exploded from an already sharp rise in each prior year. A greater proportion of viewers are consuming porn several times a day, no longer an off-hours activity, but integrated into our lifestyle. Capacity had to be increased again due to the number of concurrent sessions together with the increasing duration of each session.
The mobile platform allows porn to be an easy click away at all hours, whenever the urge arises. And the urge is arising more often. LOL
An article in Quartz, a digital news outlet, reported that several porn sites beat out Ebay and Craigslist in 2017. Further

A growing number of women now, 17%, describe themselves as addicted to pornography and masturbating more. “Sex: Women ‘just as easily hooked on online porn as men.’” Daily Telegraph, 8/6/14. Surveys since show that number exceeds a fifth (20%) of all women.

An article in a recent Church Militant reported that 8 out of 10 men between the ages of 18 and 30 view pornography at least monthly. 30% are viewing porn several times a day and that number is rising. Also, Christian men view porn almost as much as non-Christians. When you factor out unhealthy men, men with chronic illness, that number exceeds 90%. This parallels other studies showing masturbation being embraced as a casual activity enjoyed more often and at all hours.

Those who frequent Internet porn are remaining single longer, reporting masturbating and casual sex over marriage as their preferred source of sexual gratification. Most report a stronger, more frequent orgasmic need than their married counterparts, “Are Pornography and Marriage Substitutes for Young Men?” Institute for the Study of Labor. 2014.

Increased porn use and masturbation is a growing trend that cuts across religion, race and even age and is consistent with other studies showing a dramatic rise in self-reported ejaculatory frequency (due largely to masturbation) across all demographics and especially among men. Frequent ejaculation has been associated with better sexual and overall health.

The surprising finding is what has been referred to as a "sexual renaissance" among older men marked by more frequent ejaculation supported largely by porn consumption, e.g., University of Chicago's NSHAP study among others. It demonstrates a dramatic reversal in the traditionally expected decrease in sexual urge and masturbation as men age as most report masturbating and ejaculating more now than when they were a decade or two younger. For many, it is less an addiction than a hobby or lifestyle that a growing number, such as is mentioned in this Church article, find they enjoy doing daily or more. They report a desire to increase both the duration and frequency of their masturbation sessions.

According to a 2012 editorial published in the Student British Medical Journal, more than 80 percent of 50- to 90-year-olds are sexually active. Activity includes more masturbation, intercourse, followed by oral and anal sex than in their younger years. This has resulted in a surprising rise in cases of syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea among 45- to 64-year-olds in the U.S. and the U.K. According to CDC estimates, there were almost 900 cases of syphilis in 45 to 64-year-olds in 2000, and in 2010, the number grew to more than 2,500. In the elderly age group, 6,700 people were diagnosed with chlamydia in 2000; by 2010? 19,000.

This supports other studies such as the nationally representative survey of more than 3,000 U.S. adults ages 57 to 85 found by the University of Chicago, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, in showed that as many as 75% remained sexually active, with a significant proportion enjoying frequent masturbation and a variety of other sexual behaviors. They also report increasing the duration and frequency of their masturbation sessions.
