SOCKS ARE BACK

Socks are making a comeback these days. OK, those who insisted did always find somewhere, just think of JoeGage. But now even mainstream Men.com starts having them, which I take it as a sign of regained respectability. Latest releases by Pantheon also feature them, instead of the usual boots, whenever men had something on their feet. People either love socks or hate them, but whatever, their presence seems to make a difference.

If you ever stumbled into really ancient porn, like silents from the 20’s or 30's, you will notice that men not only all had a mustache, but they also invariably had black socks on, with or without other clothing items. I never understood if that was intended to be erotic, but anyhow, socks were just always there. They even had garters most often, so that they would not fall off, and it made it look even naughtier. Up until the 60’s, US clandestine porn typically had men wearing black socks, and masks which is kind of creepy, but since it was illegäl, they should not be recognized.

Since the upcoming of commercial porn in the 1970’s, socks immediately fell out of fashion. They were at most a casual occurence, more an oddity, least of all a niche. Only eccentrics like straight hardcore veteran Ed Powers would never take them off, but just like his ponytail and his glasses, they were meant to look goofy. Other fetishes were alive and well though, like women’s lingerie, stockings or shoes (I mean with high heels of course). Whereas men in socks was the unsexiest thing you could think of. The ubiquitous male porn fetish was everything leather, up until now, and soon came jockstraps. Partial clothing was always popular in porn, as if people looked more erotic when they were nude with some piece of clothing on, rather than with nothing at all.

A popular fetish in male porn since the last decade has been suit and tie. Can you believe so many guys dream to get it on with their colleagues or their boss on their workplace? A whole “office porn” niche emerged, led by MenatPlay, who also found out there was a craving for clean-cut sexy men in long OTC socks. Otherwise, you were more likely to find your everyday socks in trashy European amateur flicks, from British to Russian. Very rarely in productions from the States, which dominate the market and set trends.

Wearing or seeing socks during sex was always a turn for me, so I try figuring out what makes them hot, or inversely triggers reject, even among males. Sure, if you find feet erotic, then I admit they’re a problem. In my case, they wear on me immediately, faster than if I took a pill. I mean, the point is not to sniff them, you can of course if you like, but that's one step beyond. It just feels hornier when they’re just there. Of course, I have my own theories about it, but I’m interested in anyone else’s point of view.

I would say there is something of a “sock attitude”. Which would be like : come on, we want to have sex, we want it now, and we’re far too horny to bother removing anything that is not in the way. The reason of the widespread sock reject seems to be their association with “dirty”. They are not more so than any other types of underwear though, unless of course you wear them longer than two days on. But there we have a point. Especially as sex goes, the line is always thin between horny and repulsive, as between pleasure and pain. Rimming, for example, is not the most pasteurized activity you can think of, yet it’s all over the place now, at least in porn. As a doctor, I would not generally recommend it though…, whereas socks are totally safe!

Socks and sex became a symbol throughout my personal experience. During my teenage years (early eighties), there were three things respectable girlfriends would not do : 1°) oral - and anal even less! ( the few chicks who did earned a reputation). 2°) have sex with full light on. 3°) let you keep your socks on - even when it was freezing. This strange prohibition had the reverse effect on me, making socks the icon of sexual freedom. And it also turned out males were not so fussy when among themselves, enjoying sex downright in its primary rawness.

Today, my fetish has further refined : I have a sock code. Black socks look hornier on tops, but white socks hornier on bottoms. So that it turned into a sort of ritual, like starting a chess game : top takes the black, and bottom takes the white. The only socks I’d rather see off are those with goofy colors and patterns. Of course, I came across males with a sock reject, but rarely faced fierce resistance, and managed to convert quite a few. I even found cultural differences : East European boys never mind them, and Middle Eastern boys are quite openly turned on by them.

I am definitely not alone in my oddity. Although not my favorite pornstars, Daddy Mugs often performs with socks on, and Daddy Ken always does. He actually made black socks his trademark under pressing demands of his fans, once he had done it the first time. As for powerbottom Parker Boyd aka Jayson Park, outside the fact he's equally into age gap, I never saw him barefeet, and I feel it's a sort of statement.
