THE END OF ALL PORN AND THE INTERNET AS WE KNOW IT
So I'm exaggerating the end of ALL porn. That's been around since the first caveman drew boobs on a cave wall and then his buddy came along and rubbed one out staring at it.
What I'm not exaggerating about is SOPA. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), or HR 3261, is a bill backed by the motion picture and recording industries to once and for all end theft on the Internet. In a nutshell it's big dollar special interest, frustrated for years by countries like China stealing intellectual property and websites like The Pirate Bay thumbing their noses at all legal attempts to shut them down.
I'm not here to condone piracy and I really think something should be done about China's blatant disregard for net privacy and international copyright laws. However this bill isn't the way to go about doing it.
Basically the only people to benefit (read: profit) from it is big business and while I'm all about making a buck, I'm not about making a buck if it means screwing all the consumers of the world and using censorship to do so.
You can read more about the bill by searching for SOPA on the internet. Don't bother looking it up on Wikipedia Wednesday the 18th because English language Wiki will be down all day in protest. Also possibly a taste of what the internet will look like under this legislation.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
Not naming names but seeing as how porn websites have recently been sued over their free content uploaded by users, I don't think it would be to far of a stretch of the imagination to say that free porn websites will become a nice target of legal opportunity under this law. Even if free sites are not targeted, most of the other things you love about the internet will drastically change.
More importantly, once the United States Government gets it smelly little finger into the private parts of the internet with legislation like this, it just a first step towards even worse things, like taxing Email.
Look that one up sometime. There was a period where the US Goverment was considering taxing each email at .01 cents each. Nothing the Government hates more than to see a gravy train of potential cash and not be able to get its greedy hands into it.
So what can you do?
Glad you asked.
Email, call or write your Federal representatives. Tell them...politely like you were talking to Reverend Smith or Father Joe...that if this bill passes, you will hold them accountable in the next election and do what you can to see that they get fired. Almost all those fuckers are on thin ice with the American voters so they are really paying attention right now.
Below is a link that you can use to find out who your state senator and local representatives are. Further, by following the links, you can actually email your representatives directly. For the lazy among us, this is about as simple as it gets.

Thank you for your support in this and remember, you're not just doing it for yourself but for all the free spanking off that you enjoy on a regular basis.
Oh...and don't just threaten to un-elect those congressional assholes, get off your own lazy asses and go VOTE if you don't already. It only takes a few minutes for Gods sake. Stop spanking off long enough to cast a ballet.
