The fragility and elusiveness of online relationsh
For those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s and even before, it goes without saying that life in our society has changed dramatically. This holds particularly true of how many of us socially interact and even meet new acquaintances. Over the years I've encountered and talked to numerous people in cyber space whether it was on FB, or through some other venue of social media. Many of these encounters began and ended with a simple " hello". Others led to weeks or even months of in depth conversing and some ( but not most )even materialized into actual in-person meetings. But I've also found that in the vast majority of cases these internet relationships dissolve rather quickly and rarely last. It seems that once two people run out of things to discuss or as new online contacts take the place of old ones people tend to lose interest or simply forget about one another. It also goes without saying that online discussions or text messages can distort the mood of communication leading to misunderstanding and hence the end of the connection. There are pluses and minuses I suppose but I also find it depressing in some ways that friendships have become more or less a disposable entity or so it seems...
