Questioned posed to me about rope

1. I'm guessing you were using hemp rope?
-yes I primarily use hemp rope as it's my favorite.

I started with 5/16" Solid Braid MFP, my reasons for that were purely as it was available to me at the time. The cost id much lower then that of hemp or jute. It's rot proof and will float in water, it's also much easier to clean and maintain.

Hemp rope must be hand washed, hung from a rod or clothes line to dry, and then oiled. The cleaning of hemp rope is at your discretion. If you plan on only using your rope for 1 person, you don't need to clean it as often...maybe one a year.

MFP can be place in a gentle cycle in a washing machine, it can be put into a dry at low heat for 45 minutes but, I suggest doing a half dryer and half clothes line dry method. MFP doesn't need to be conditioned with oil or anything.

Using for both of them a mild detergent half recommended does from the bottle or box. 160 degree water is suggested for hemp and use cold water to rinse. MFP wash in war/cold for colors and cold/cold for darks. When washing your rope for the first time don't mix colors. This is just in case there is residual dye on the ropes.

Oils that can be used on hemp rope are jojoba oil or hemp seed oil. I use hemp seed oil for two reasons, it smells like hemp...lol and it's cheaper then jojoba oil.

2. Does cotton or poly rope leave marks like that, or, to phrase this better, what kind of rope would you recommend for good hold with minimal marks?

-Honestly each person is a little different, if you're talking about leaving rope burns on her then you're going to have to master a gentle approach to rope bondage and she needs to learn how much struggling she can withstand before her skin is unable to resist the rope. However, if you're talking about marks such as indentations on the skin, well...no way around that....it's rope, it's make to constrict.

You could use MFP, cotton, jute, hemp, or silk and all are going to leave marks to some degree. If I ever had someone that marked easily you just can't tie them overly tight and the only way you can learn that to do a test of different tightness's on your girl. Do it in a place that wouldn't typically be show in the general public.

MFP -> Soft man made fibers, friction causes rope marks more in this type of rope

Cotton -> Soft natural fibers, friction and tightness causes rope marks or burns.

Jute & Hemp -> soft to harsh (depends on how it's made), friction and tightness causes rope marks or burns

Silk -> I've personally never used it so I'm unable to tell you much about it. I know it can be soft but, I've also heard in the g**** vine that the first dozen uses it's quite course and prickly. This is only due to a break in reason. Madam Butterfly is the only one I would trust to make my silk if I were to want it.

Hemp is my preferred again, I like the feel, smell, resilience, plus I make it so it's a lot cheaper.

3. can you recommend any good video guides for knots? I've checked out Two Knotty Boys, and they are not bad, but I keep getting lost. I need more of a step by step guide.
-Well the way I learned was to first study all knots, A good reference point in finding boy scout knot books or pdf's, or even animations online. Once you've learned the knot portion of things it becomes a lot easier to follow along with other peoples rope bondage guides.

I learned by learning knots then looking at pictures. With those images I would practice on myself, by doing this I could learn faster as I was too young to have a partner and I could learn how to tie without damaging someone.
