Pornhub Cares Launches “Save the Whales” Fundraising Campaign in Time for World Whale Day
Funds to Benefit Washington-based Non-Profit Dedicated to Saving the Whales through Knowledge and Conservation
New York, NY (February 9, 2016) Today, Pornhub, the premier online destination for adult entertainment, announced the launch of its newest initiative, Pornhub Cares’ Save the Whales campaign. Launching in commemoration for World Whale Day on February 13, the company’s latest philanthropic endeavor will be a month-long fundraising and awareness movement dedicated to the preservation of big beautiful whales worldwide, including the endangered sperm whale which is especially dear to Pornhub.
As part of the campaign, Pornhub will donate 1 cent for every 2000 video views on the site through February 29. The funds generated will go to the Washington-based
Moclips Cetological Society, a non-profit organization devoted to protecting whales (and all other cetacean species) through knowledge and conservation.
The Moclips Cetological Society has been an active agent of change among academics and philanthropists within the whale preservation community for many years. Since the organization’s inception, they have initiated the Northwest Regional Orca Survey, and founded the Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, WA, and is involved in many other major research groups . The MCS has also published a plethora of books and scientific articles pertaining to whales and their conservation open to free public access for those willing to learn more.
"Humans are not the only mammals that engage in sexual activities for reasons other than procreation,” said Ken Balcomb, president of Moclips Cetological Society. “Cetaceans – whales, dolphins and porpoises – are very sexual animals and have evolved a variety of fascinating social life histories beyond simple procreation. Although our primary goal is to ensure effective conservation for cetacean species, our academic goal is to educate the public about their social and biological lifestyles that readers might find very interesting.”
After nearly a century of commercial whaling and overfishing, there has been a major decline in the population of whales, which play a very important role in the health of our environment and our understanding of marine mammals. This is why it’s imperative that the environmental community continue its fight on all levels to help end the destruction, and why Pornhub has jumped in.
“Here at Pornhub, we care deeply about the environment and the preservation of wildlife,” said Corey Price, VP, Pornhub. “We’re now asking our community turn their attention to – and help save – a different type of blowhole, one that belongs to a majestic species that once swelled in numbers throughout the oceans before commercial industries initiated their demise.”
As part of the campaign, Pornhub has set up a landing page that will direct all traffic to the main site, and via an active tracking counter, be able to clock the amount of users, videos, and funds being accrued in real-time as folks look to blow their loads for a good cause.
Save the Whales is the latest initiative for Pornhub Cares, Pornhub’s official philanthropic division. Past Pornhub Cares initiatives include its Christy Mack collection, a limited edition clothing line to support the fight against domestic violence; Save the Boobs, its Breast Cancer awareness campaign; the awarding of a $25,000 Scholarship; Save the Balls, its Testicular Cancer awareness campaign; and Give America Wood, its Arbor Day campaign.
