Musing of old and new

Change is inevitable, but that doesn't mean every change is necessarily good. Porn and sex in general has changed a great deal over the last 40 years here in the US. It was in the mid to late 70s when the porn industry broke out of the shadows and became mainstream. It did so on the looks and skills of such lovely gals as Kay Parker, Marilyn Chambers, Seka, Vanessa del Rio, and many others, along with the rigid cocks of John Holmes, Ron Jeremy, Mike Ranger, Kevin James, and others. The films pushed boundaries, made us look through film at the many sexual taboos we as a culture had and for us to let go of the self-imposed chains and free ourselves, and we did just that. As the 80s rolled in on high momentum new gals like Christy Canyon, Amber Lynn, Ginger Lynn, Ebony Ayes, Savannah, Trinity Loren and many others and male stars like Peter North and Tom Byron took the scene by storm and birthed the Golden Age of the Industry.

As things have progressed forward into the new digital frontier though, the industry has become less and less about films and the intimate material and more about simple fucking. Many people seem perfectly content with that. After all, most people feel that the point of a porn film is to simply get your rocks off, its a fuck flick pure and simple. That is true to some degree, but have we become so simpleminded that the context means nothing, that the how and why are of no use? I miss the days of actual film, the need for the gals to be able to do more than just suck a dick and moan effectively. Once upon a time the gals had to be able to act at least somewhat. Nobody was looking for them to become the next leading lady in a summer blockbuster but it was nice to see that they did have some range. This obviously isn't a completely lost concept as one thing you see now are shorts of sorts being made, where both amateur and professional players are in scenes that have a plot and they do provide a full performance, not just a simple and straightforward fuck. Ironically it seems to have come around full circle in regards to one particular genre, the genre that really pushed the limit initially, the taboo i****t genre. In the golden oldie days it was straightforward traditional sort of material, literally i****t (though obviously it wan't really i****t) and made manifest perfectly with the early Taboo films with Kay Parker. In modern times we see this with the step-sibling and step-parents label being made clear so as to avoid the topic just enough as to not draw complete ire. Professionals like Cory Chase seem to delve into the genre eagerly, and amateur players (who seem to push into the professional side upon successful ventures) like Lady Fyre seem more than happy to fill the ravenous appetite of the masses.

Why is this genre above all others so popular? Does the true taboo of it touch some secret carnal need and desire that we are too afraid to admit to? Why does this genre seem able to take the enhancements of technology to better itself yet still draw from the past to see out the classic theatrical aspects as well? So much of this gives us questions to ponder with answers too numerous to count. And while enjoyment is paramount, should we not allow ourselves moments to reflect as well?
